Hello Interschols Runner Girls.
Congratulations. To be at this point, the day before 2015 Division I GXC Interscholastic Championships, as part of the Phillips Academy team, is an accomplishment of which to be very proud.
You are all a part of a pretty amazing team. The thing is that not all of your teammates are there with you physically. You see, you are a part of a team that is made up of so many who came before you ... and there are many who will join in the future.
There are many amazing young women, who had the same anticipation you have today. And now they are out in the world being amazing women, fighting battles or chasing dreams. One is in Hong Kong, living her dream. One is an engineer in San Fransisco. One is a pre-kindergarten teacher who is truly inspiring young leaders to rebuild their Baltimore, who is also standing by her mother in a courageous fight against cancer. One just climbed a mountain and got engaged on the top. One is still running and winning races. One is a triathlon champion in Colorado. Two are taking MIT by storm! One is a spokeswoman, championing for girls who battle eating disorders. One spends her winters teaching skiing and her summers biking the world. Three are "teachers for America." There are so many more. Tomorrow, they will be with you. They are thinking of you this week, remembering their interschols experiences, and sending you their strength.
They - we - are the wings on your feet. With the wings on your feet, you just can't be beat. So, when you are racing tomorrow, and you hit that moment - and you all will - when you feel the pain, or question your ability or have any doubt - just focus ... visualize - really visualize - wings on your shoes. Visualize those wings pushing you upward and onward. Feel the push - really feel it.
Because we will all be there, as your wings. Coach Barry, Coach Koolen, Coach Anderson, Coach Sykes, Coach Lang, Kate, Caitlyn, Sarah, Hoppy, Beibhinn, Katie, Kelsey, Berol, Abby, Breezy, Stephanie, Aubrey, Tavie, Georgina, Jenn, Melissa, Roxy, and many many more.
We are your wings. You are the runner girls. And someday you will be the wings.
With the wings on our feet, we just can't be beat - cross country, cross country.
